TPACK reflection

How well does the use of this technology may support your teaching strategies in this activity?
  • The technology really helps the way I teach and the way the student learn. I believe having technology in the classroom allows student to become more involved with their learning. Instead of just standing there lecturing about my topic I was able to keep them interested by playing games.
How effectively does the use of this technology enhance students' understanding of the learning from your particular content in this activity?
  • I think that it really enhances their understanding because they are not just listening to me teach they are watching videos and doing activities. It reiterates the information from the lecture so that they will be able to remember the information better. Adding technology to learning really keep student interested in what you are talking about, it is easier to learn information they you are interested in. Students were more willing to learn new subjects because there was technology involved.
What are your strategies and why do you think your strategies are appropriate to teaching this specific content? What makes you believe it would help your students comprehend this particular content?
  • My strategies were to keep the students interested in what I was talking about. I change apps and ways of teaching to keep them "on their feet" and focused. Changing the way that I'm teaching forces them to pay attention or they will be totally lost. I believe that it helps them comprehend the information because i spoke about the topic, then I showed a short video that went more in depth on the topic. After the video I involved them by asking if they had any questions then having them pull up an activity that talks about the same information that was just in my lecture and the video. Seeing information multiple times really helps a student learn about a topic.
What would be some conceptions and pre-conceptions that students of different ages and backgrounds bring with them when learning this particular content? What would be concern about students' prior knowledge, experiences, motivation?
  • Well everyone breaths so they already know a little bit about the respiratory system. They may not know exactly what it means or what organs are used, but they do know that everyone must breath. Once concern is that students have absolutely no knowledge of what the respiratory is or what it does. I don't think there could be any negative knowledge that they would already know.  The only problem I see happening is that the students wont know how to work the computers, but they can easily be taught.
What main instructional strategies would this technology use serve in you activity? How would using the technology support the way you teach this activity?
  • It would allow me to show the students what the different organs look like, and videos on how they work. Obviously you aren't able to see you respiratory system working, but with technology there are videos that show you what the organs look like and how they work together. I think using technology supports how I teach about the respiratory system because it allows students to see truly how it works. The activity that I used online taught students more about each organ and what it was connected to. It also showed students where in the body those organs are located.
What different classroom management strategies might you consider when using this technology in the activity?
  • I would have to enforce a rule that students are not allowed to do anything else on their computers but the activity that I have assigned. I could see students opening a different tab to be on their social media or other games. I would monitor their computers by walking around the room to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to.
How would using this technology enhance the way the content is represented in your activity?
  • Using technology would enhance the content because it reinforces the information provided in the lecture. Not only are the students hearing me talk about the topic, they are also getting to watch a video on the topic then doing an activity on it. By the end of the lesson they should really understand the respiratory system and the organs used.
In what different ways students practice or understand the content in your activity that would otherwise not be possible without the use of the technology? In addition to motivational benefits, what else can students do with this technology as they are learning the content?
  • The students wouldn't be able to see the organs and practice placing them where they go if I hadn't used technology. They could have looked at pictures but the technology allows students to be more interactive with the information in the lecture. It would help them understand the the information.

  1. You started out with questions, I enjoy that because it prepares me for the lesson ahead and what knowledge I may be needing to tap into. You are very precise in your delivery. The app you used was very informative and I liked how it was like a puzzle. The only thing that might have helped was having the app pulled up already. Great work!

  2. I really enjoyed your lesson! I learned lots about the respiratory system and am assured that any student will learn lots from your teaching skills. The only advice I have is to keep practicing and learning as you continue to teach lessons as a future teacher.

  3. It was fun getting to play your respiratory game! It was a good review for me because I have taken an EMT course in the past. I would also agree with having the app pulled up just because there were so many already pulled up which may have cause it to be slower.
